Senior IPS officer Alok Verma will soon take over as the new Director General of Tihar Jail in the national capital.
Verma, a 1979 Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre officer who was serving as Special Commissioner Administration in Delhi Police, will be replacing Vimla Mehra, Tihar Jail PRO Sunil Gupta said today.
Verma has been asked to join with immediate effect, he said.
Mehra, a 1978-batch officer, has been transfered to the Delhi Police, Gupta said.
Mehra took over the charge from Neeraj Kumar after he was appointed the Delhi Police Chief in 2012.
Deputy Inspector General Tihar, Mukesh Prasad, who was handed over the additional charges after Mehra relinquished the post, has been relieved of his duties.
