Attacking the BJP government in Chhattisgarh, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh today said the time has come for people to vote out two-time Chief Minister Raman Singh accusing him of spending public money for his administration's publicity.
"Under BJP rule, natural resources were being openly looted. Chhattisgarh government had also come under the scanner over coal and iron ore block allotments," he said.
"Statewide corruption is being witnessed where fair price shops do not provide stipulated quantity of ration to beneficiaries. Also, black-marketing of kerosene has increased," the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister told reporters here.
The veteran Congressman alleged the government of Raman Singh, who yesterday embarked on his "Vikas Yatra", was misusing tax payers' money for his own publicity.
"Whenever I open newspapers, I see Raman Singh, switch on news channels and you see Raman Singh. Public money is being extensively misused on the government's advertisements. Time has come to bring about a change in Chhattisgarh."
The Congress General Secretary was here to take part in his party's 'Parivartan Yatra' in the state where assembly election is scheduled to be held by year-end.
Digvijay said the Congress-led UPA government has taken several pro-people measures and in this regard he cited RTI, Right to Education, proposed Food Security Bill and rural job programme (MNREGA), among others.
Defending Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal over alleged bribery row, Singh said his party colleague has no connection with transfer or promotion of any official and he need not resign.
