In a stern message to a section of party workers and leaders, Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee today said party would not spare those who are involved in violent incidents in West Bengal.
Chatterjee's comment comes a day after the killing of two men in a clash between two factions of a political party at Bhangor in South 24 Parganas district yesterday.
The name of local Trinamool Congress strongman Arabul Islam has been referred in the incident by the opposition.
"We want to state one thing clearly, it is not about Arabul or any other party leader, our party at any situation would not tolerate any kind of violence, even if it is by members of our party or any other party. We don't support such violence and no leniency would be shown, there is no place for violence," Chatterjee told reporters.
"After 34 years of CPI(M) misrule, we have established a peaceful situation. We the ruling party don't support such violence and neither the administration will show any leniency to it," he said.
"Those who are involved with bomb making and use of guns will be handled with an iron fist. While dealing with such situations (political) colours of those associated with such incident will not be seen. This will be applicable for all parties, including ours, that if it is found that someone is trying to create division, spread riots and violence in the state, they will not be spared," Chatterjee, also education minister of the state, said.
Chatterjee, however, added, "Whenever we take any steps we will let you know. This is an internal matter of the party.
