The TMCP activists gheraoed the acting principal of Salar College Kakoli Bhaumick and locked her up in her room for more than four hours yesterday, they said.
They were protesting against an advertisement in the college magazine which urged students to vote for candidates of Congress' student wing in the college union elections, police said.
When the Block Development Officer (BDO) in Salar and the Officer-in-Charge of the local police station went to the college they were also gheraoed by the students.
The TMCP activists lifted the gherao around 8.30 pm last night.
