The victim, Principal Secretary to government, Special Programme Implementation, Shantini Kapoor was pronounced dead in a government hospital here after she was rushed from the accident spot this evening, Superintendent of Police, Krishnagiri District, P Kannammal told PTI.
The mishap occurred on Chennai-Krishnagiri Highway when a tyre burst suddenly and the driver Selvaraj lost control, hit the median and rammed into a lorry on the opposite side of the road, she added.
The official was travelling in a car alongwith four others. Besides the official, two others -- car driver and the bureaucrat's sister's husband -- died on the spot, she said.
Shantini Kapoor (54) was an IAS official of the 1983 batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre and had held various positions in the government.
