Traffic movement on roads affected due to landslides

Traffic movement on national highways and other roads here have been disrupted due to landslides caused by rainfall in the region, affecting even the Chaardham Yatra.
According to reports from the State Emergency Operation Centre here, heavy to medium rains have been reported across the state.
In the Rudraprayag area, heavy rains have occured near Kedarnath and 103.75 mm rainfall was recorded in Ukhimath tehsil in the past 24 hours.
In Jakholi, 47.05 mm rainfall was recorded, while 22.08 mm rain was recorded in Bhatwadi and New Tehri. Barkot received 24.04 mm rain, Uttarkashi 22.08 mm and 16 mm rain was recorded in Purola and Chinyali Sour.
Other areas also received light rains.
The Centre said due to the rains, landslides have occured at various places and the debris is affecting traffic movement on roads and national highways.
Traffic movement on Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway has been affected in Netala, Malla and other areas in Uttarkashi district due to debris from landslides, while operation on Rishikesh-Yamnotri National Highway was affected in Painigaon, Pataalganga, Pagalnala and other areas in Chamoli district, it said.
Traffic movement on Rishikesh-Kedarnath National Highway is affected in Kankra, Dolia Devi Mandir and Phata.
Apart from the national highways, 154 big and small motor roads have been affceted due to landslides.
The Border Road Organisation is trying to remove the debris from all affected areas, the centre said.
The water levels in Ganga, Yamuna and many other rivers have increased due to the rainfall.
The Ganga has been flowing near the danger marks in Haridwar and Rishikesh.
Apart from hitting the normal life, the continuous rain has also affected the Chaardham Yatra.
Six pilgrims who were stopped at Sonprayag yesterday due to rains in Kedarnath, Laicholi and Bheembali were allowed to proceed to Kedarnath today morning, it added.
