Train hits tractor at unmanned level crossing

In a close shave, the driver of a tractor escaped unhurt when a passenger train hit his vehicle at an unmanned level crossing near Pudukottai today.
The Mannargudi-Tiruchirappalli diesel engine multiple unit (DEMU) train was travelling at a very low speed and the driver stopped it immediately as it hit the tractor at the crossing at Vellani-Pudukottai junction, a railway official said.
"There were no casualties in the accident," he said adding the tractor was lightly damaged.
"The driver of the tractor escaped immediately. We have seized the tractor and further investigations are on," the official said.
Traffic on the route resumed after an hour.
