The tribals approached Narayanpatna police station in Koraput district wanting to join the mainstream, police said today.

As the Red rebels use CMAS as a shield to carry out unlawful activities, the snapping of ties with the Sangh yesterday by the tribals will weaken the Maoist outfit in the area in real terms, they said.

"If tribals continue to desert CMAS in coming days, then it will pose a serious threat to the existence of Naxals in the area as they use Sangh members to carry out offensives. On the other hand, the developments will help security forces in their fight against extremists," they said.

Pointing out that 12 tribals had earlier deserted CMAS, an official said the tribals have now realised that they had got nothing in the fight between the police and the Naxals.

"While CMAS activists have been jailed, their families are languishing at villages without any help from Maoists or the Sangh. CMAS leader Nachika Linga is absconding to avoid arrest. The tribals have realised that they are the ultimate sufferers in the conflict between the Maoists and the police," he said.
