Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today got the red beacon removed from his vehicle saying it was a step in keeping with his government's commitment to end VIP culture.
"In keeping with our government's commitment to put an end to VIP culture I have had the red beacon removed from my vehicle," he said.
He also thanked all his ministerial colleagues and the state Assembly Speaker who had removed the red beacon from their vehicles.
The Union Cabinet had yesterday decided to go for a ban on red beacon from May 1 with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying these symbols were out of touch with the spirit of new India.
