"We're going to take it through the system. It's very important. It's very important to the country regardless of me or whoever succeeds at a later date. I mean, we have to have security in our country," Trump told reporters at the White House in his remarks with County Sheriffs.
"We have to have the ability, when you take some place like Syria, you take all of the different people pouring -- and if you remember, ISIS said we are going to infiltrate the US and other countries through the migration. And then we're not allowed to be tough on the people coming in? Explain that one," he said.
"We'll see what happens. We have a big court case. We're well-represented and we're gonna see what happens," he said and hoped that it might not have to be taken to the top court.
"We'll see. Hopefully it doesn't have to. It's common sense. You know, some things are law and I'm all in favor of that. Some things are common sense. This is common sense," he said.
Trump said his administration will stop terrorism. "They want to take a lot of our powers away. Some people with the wrong intentions," he said.
He said we're not going to have the drugs pour over the border like they have been. "We're committed to securing our borders," especially in border states, he said. "We're going to be building a wall."
Noting that there's been a record delay in cabinet confirmations, Trump said it is all politics.
