It was unclear when the star for the controversial mogul and leading Republican presidential candidate was vandalized.
An AFP correspondent who visited the site on Hollywood Boulevard yesterday saw that the star had been cleaned up.
Leron Gubler, head of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, said he regretted that someone would vandalize a historic landmark.
"People who have a disagreement with Donald Trump should not take it out on the Walk of Fame," he told AFP in a statement.
Trump got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007 for his hit reality TV show "The Apprentice.
