Concerned over the reported power crisis hitting Tawang causing inconvenience to the local public and affecting tourism, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today convened a high level meeting of the Power department here.
The meet was attended by minister for Power (Elect) Tanga Byaling, minister for Hydropower Phurpa Tsering, Principal Secretary, Finance, Satyagopal Sinha, Commissioner, Power, Kaling Tayeng, Secretary, Planning, Secretary, Hydropower and Chief Engineers of the departments concerned, an official release said.
Kaling Tayeng made a detail presentation on the power scenario of Tawang district, including installed capacity and present generation capacities of various hydel projects commissioned in the district.
While briefing on the issues hampering continuous flow of power supply in the district, Tayeng suggested mitigation measures of short term, long term and medium term to address the problem on urgent basis.
The Chief Minister ordered release of Rs 1.5 crore immediately for restoration of Kitpi-first phase and Kitpi second phase hydel projects and an additional Rs 30 lakh to power department for running the DG Set.
The restoration work would take at least one month and during that period the DG set would be used to supply power to Tawang, the release said.
The hydro power department assured that power supply would be improved with the restoration work on important hydel stations, which at present generates 2.52 MW, it said.
An additional one MW would be added for supply after the restoration of Kitpi-I and Kitpi-II totalling to 3.5 MW, which would provide respite to the district.
The Chief Minister has called another meeting on December 25 to review and monitor the progress of the decisions taken today, the release added.
