Two persons, who had allegedly tried to extort Rs 50 lakh from a real estate businessman here, have been arrested, police said today.
According to the police, they have arrested Sanjeev, a sharp shooter and a member of Neeraj Bawania gang, and his associate Sandeep Gulia who had allegedly conspired to extort huge sum of money from one Hitesh Chaudhary, who is dealing in a real estate business.
Ranvir Singh, Additional Commissioner of Police, West Delhi, said on August 14, Chaudhary had filed a complaint at Paschim Vihar Police station alleging that he received an extortion call in which the caller had demanded Rs 50 lakh as extortion money or otherwise he would be eliminated.
During the investigation, the family members of the victim were examined and call details were scrutinised and it was revealed that extortion call was made from Sanjeev's mobile phone.
A police raid was conducted and 27-year-old Sanjeev was arrested from District Park Paschim Vihar, while 28-year-old Sandeep was caught from Swarn Park in Nangloi and recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from them.
Police said Sanjeev was a proclaimed offender in two other murder cases registered in 2012 in Haryana's Panipat and he had jumped bail.
They also said Sanjeev was also involved in gang war that took place in Subhash Place area here in August this year in which two members of rival group, Neetu Dabodia gang, were killed.
