The two poachers were taken into custody from Harmoti Chapori under Bagori range of the Park when they were almost ready to strike in the World Heritage Site, Divisional Forest Officer Subhashish Das said.
Stating that the duo was identified as Ashito Musahari and Md Nur Islam, Das said one .303 rifle and five live ammunitions were recovered from them.
The operation against the poachers was led by Assistant Conservator of Forest KNP Bagori range Ramen Das and jointly conducted by Jakhlabanda police station Officer in-Charge (OC) and Incharge of Bagori outpost.
The gang had killed an adult male rhino, removed its horn and dumped the carcass on November 22 last year near Tunikati camp under Burapahar Range of KNP.
