The deceased were identified as Jhoteswar Mohanta (12) Ambagadia and Kshetramani Dhal (50) Dantiamuha villages under Betanati forest range, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Baripada, Arun Patra said.
The elephant had first attacked the boy who had gone out to attend nature's call, killing him on the spot before turning its ire on two women in the nearby forest who had gone there to collect minor forest produce.
The injured woman was shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment.
The tusker had retreated into the nearby Gandigada forests and forest personnel were making efforts to chase it to from the area, Patra said adding the area was not a known elephant corridor.
