UAE jails Lankan for trying to coerce Indian girl to marry

A Lankan man here has been jailed for six months for attempting to coerce his ex-girlfriend from India into marriage after blackmailing her with her nude photos.
The 34-year-old swimming instructor, who was identified only with his initials A P, clicked some obscene images of the 23-year-old woman during their affair and tried to force her to marry him.
The defendant blackmailed the woman and tried to coerce her to marry him after threatening to show her photos to her family, the Gulf News reported.
The defendant even posted the photos on her uncle's Facebook timeline and sent them to her sister on WhatsApp.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted him of blackmailing and threatening to publish the woman's nude photos against financial gain.
The woman testified in court that she paid 2,000 dirham (USD 544) to A P and when she failed to pay him more, he sent the photos to her uncle and sister.
The defendant will be deported to Sri Lanka following the completion of his jail term. The woman's photos will be seized by the court, said the court.
