Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today said the government will pay a compensation of Rs five lakh to the next of kin of those killed in this year's cloudburst and decided to bring the commercial establishment damaged in the calamity under the ambit of the package.
An announcement to this effect was made by Rawat while reviewing compensation being given to affected families in Pauri district where cloudbursts, floods and landslides had claimed 14 lives on August 15 this year besides causing large scale damage to roads, drinking water projects and power supply lines in the area, an official release said.
Yamkeshwar, Kaljikhal and Dwarikhal blocks of the district had been the worst hit in the calamity.
Those who lost their livestock in the calamity will get compensation as per the extent of their loss and not a fixed amount as compensation, Rawat was quoted as saying.
Rawat asked the Irrigation department to submit a plan detailing flood control measures to be taken near Sukhro, Malan and Khau rivers as soon as possible.
