The inmate, identified as one Kuldeep, was facing trial in a case of kidnapping and murder of a child which was registered against him last year at Samaypur Badli police station in outer Delhi, police said.
"Kuldeep committed suicide by hanging himself using a piece of cloth inside the common bathroom of the jail in the evening yesterday. Preliminary inquiry suggests he was worried about the outcome of his case," said an officer at the jail.
After fellow inmates found Kuldeep hanging in the bathroom, jail staff were informed and he was rushed to Ambedkar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, the officer added.
Local police was informed about the suicide and the body has been sent for a post-mortem, he added.
