Under the initiative, both UNFPA and Ministry of HRD have launched a video series to train tutors to improve quality of teaching to students under the National Open School.
The 'teaching-learning video series' was today released by Minister of State for HRD Shashi Tharoor.
The life skills mainly aims at integrating issues such as adolescent health in school curriculum to help them make informed decisions.
"Integrating adolescent health and well being concerns in the school curriculum is one of the most promising ways to empower young people, particularly girls to make informed and responsible decisions," an UNFPA official said.
The HRD ministry plans to expand the availability and use of these teaching tools to improve quality of learning in formal schools across the country, the UNFPA said in a statement.
The minister also praised the National Open schools for use of technology to reach out to students across the country.
The video series will also be made available in regional languages for the rural people.
The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November, 1989 as an autonomous organisation in pursuance of National Policy on Education 1986 by HRC Ministry.
