Union Housing and Urban Affairs secretary Durga Shankar Mishra Saturday called on Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik here and discussed various programmes underway in the state under the 'Swachh Bharat Mission'.

The governor and Mishra discussed various programmes underway under the 'Swachh Bharat Mission' and status of many centrally-sponsored schemes launched for strengthening basic facilities in the urban areas of the state, an official spokesman said.

He said the duo also discussed about the challenges in the field of solid and liquid waste management.

Earlier, Mishra attended a meeting here to review the progress made on works related to the development of J-K's twin capitals Jammu and Srinagar as 'Smart Cities'. The meeting was also attended by the state's chief secretary B V R Subrahmanyam.

Mishra assured the meeting that there was no dearth of funds with the Centre for speedy implementation of the 'Smart City Mission' in the twin capitals of the state.

"The challenge before you are utilisation and implementation but this also opens a window of opportunity to make Srinagar a great city like Geneva," he said.

Deputy commissioners of Jammu and Srinagar, who are also the in-charge CEOs of Smart City projects, informed the meeting about the progress made in the implementation of 'Smart City Mission' in their respective cities, the spokesman said.
