Javadekar opened the hostel comprising a built-up area of 25,000 sq ft, with modern facilities via video conferencing from New Delhi.
It comprises 52 rooms to accommodate 160 students and a kitchen with modern cooking facilities. Other facilities include reverse osmosis unit for continuous supply of quality water and a common dining, a varsity press release said.
The hostel, named after Vasuki, wife of Tamil saint-poet Thiruvalluvar, was partially funded under the Rashtriya Uchchttar Siksha Abhiyaan (RUSA) scheme.
A new hostel for boys at a cost of nearly Rs.Eight crore with a capacity of 240 has been constructed and is ready for occupation, the release said.
