The Uttar Pradesh government today decided to change the name of the 'Samajwadi Kisan Ayam Sarvhit Bima Yojna' to 'Mukhyamantri Kisan Ayam Sarvhit Bima Yojna.'
The decision to replace the word 'Samajwadi' by 'Mukhyamantri' was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet today. The earlier name had been adopted by the previous Samajwadi Party government in the state.
The scheme will benefit landless farmers, poor and street vendors, the state's power minister Shrikant Sharma said briefing newspersons after the meeting.
In another decision, the cabinet decided to make LED street lights mandatory in the areas falling under 16 nagar nigams of the state, he said.
The cabinet also decided to set the target of making over 1.50 lakh hectare barren land as cultivable.
"Because of growing urbanisation and industrialisation, cultivable land is reducing ...One lakh 56 thousand and 186 hectare land will be made cultivable under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhay Kisan Samriddhi Yojna," Sharma said.
Seven districts of Bundelkhand region have not been included in this as a separate package has been made for that region, he said.
A budgetary allocation of Rs 477.33 crore will be made in five years for this scheme while Rs 84 crore have been made available this year, he said.
The cabinet also decided to extend help under the 'housing for all' scheme to those who have land but not the funds for building housing units.
