Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik today said that the country needed honest people and called upon the students to make honest efforts to achieve excellence in whichever area they chose.
Presiding over the first convocation of Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University, Naik gave students a four point mantra to smile, appreciate, don't belittle a person and find ways to do things in a better way.
The university was set up during BSP regime.
The Governor conferred honorary DLit degree on Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on the occasion.
Citing Mulayam's achievements of being MLA eight times, representing his constituency in Parliament and being the Chief Minister for three times, the Governor said his leadership was worth following and asked the students to take inspiration from the SP supremo's personality.
Terming the national university as unique, Naik said that it was the only educational institution where normal and physically challenged students study together.
Addressing the convocation, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said his government was making efforts to provide best education to the youth.
He said the government would provide all assistance to make the university a world class institution and it was committed for the upliftment of physically challenged persons.
Highlighting the importance of UP, he said that all types of figures of the state impact the country therefore overlooking it would be a big mistake.
Akhilesh announced to felicitate renowned musician Ravindra Jain, who has been invited as visiting professor, with Yash Bharati.
Speaking on the occasion, Mulayam termed the convocation important and said that such events provide inspiration.
He said that all students would face big challenges in future whom they would have to tackle.
Cabinet Ministers Ambika Chaudhary, Shivpal Singh Yadav, Raghuraj Pratap Singh and professor of University of Central Lancashire Ulrike Zeshan also addressed the function.
