Upendra Prasad Singh takes charge of water resources ministry

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) director general Upendra Prasad Singh today assumed the charge of Union water resources ministry secretary, an official statement said.
He, will also hold the additional charge of CEO, NMCG, the statement said.
"Since he has been elevated to the post of ministry secretary, he has been given the additional charge of NMCG CEO (a rank above director general)," a ministry official said.
Upendra Prasad Singh, a 1985 batch IAS officer, holds a degree in mechanical engineering, the statement said.
He succeeded Amarjit Singh, a 1982 batch IAS officer, who superannuated yesterday.
According to the communiqu, Upendra Prasad Singh had earlier served in ministries of steel and petroleum and natural gas, besides working as the managing director of Oil India Ltd.
Led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the water resources ministry is implementing some of the key programmes and projects of the government like the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, Namami Gange and river-linking.
