Upset at being scolded by her maternal grandmother, a 13-year-old girl set off to Gwalior to meet her parents but was later found at the Agra railway station, the police said here today.
On June 30, an elderly woman approached police alleging that her granddaughter had not returned home from a birthday party she had gone to that evening.
After a case was registered, the police started tracking the location of her mobile phone and it was found that she had taken a train from Delhi.
They also contacted her friends and one of them told them that she had spoken about going to her parents' house in Gwalior, the police said.
The police asked her friend to call her up and ask her to deboard at Agra. Initially, she did not agree but later he somehow convinced her, they added.
Meanwhile, a police team was sent to Agra railway station to rescue the girl.
She told police that she got late while returning home from the party she had gone to attend.
Her grandmother had called her and scolded her for being late. The girl got annoyed and decided to go to her parents' in Gwalior instead of returning to her grandmother's home, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) A K Singla.
The girl's father works as a labourer and keeps moving to different cities for work. The girl has been brought up by her grandmother who lives here, he added.
