USAID to extend its child survival programmes in India

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) today announced the extension of two of its flagship projects for child survival in India and a new effort to support "diarrhoea management", one of the leading causes of child death in India.
The renewed commitment of the two nations through the USAID, aims to end all preventable child deaths and to strengthen India's Call to Action on Child survival and development, the USAID claimed.
"The renewed commitment of partners from the 'Call to Action Summit' will be taken forward on a campaign mode to both urban and rural communities in all states of the country," Anuradha Gupta, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Mission Director, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) told reporters here.

She said that this campaign will implement a "strategic roadmap" on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCH+A), by harmonising efforts of all partners and harnessing private sector engagement opportunities, with a focus on high priority states and districts with weak public health indicators.
Gupta also said that the Central government has embarked on a plan to introduce a score card to check total child health in the country.
"This (score card) will be effective for the states to measure progress and results and also take corrective actions on child health. It will help the states in identifying good and weak performance," she added.
