V O Chidambaranar Port handles record cargo traffic

V O Chidambaranar Port here, one of the 12 major ports in the country, has handled record cargo traffic of 384.63 lakh tonnes in the lasst fiscal, registering a growth of 4.3 per cent over the same period last fiscal.
The port has also made an achievement in container traffic by handling 6,42,098 TEUs up to March 31 and crossed the previous financial year's record of 6,11,714 TEUs, Chairman of VOC port R N Chandrabose told reporters here today.
The imports registered an increase of 2.30 per cent and exports made an hike of 10.38 per cent compared to the previous fiscal, he said.

Development of truck parking terminal opposite to fisheries college at an estimated cost of Rs 23.77 cr was progressing, he said.
