Universities need to design their academic structure and train students as per the needs of the industry, Chandigarh University Vice-Chancellor R S Bawa said today.
"Students are technology savvy and are well informed. They are judicious when they plan their career and do not refrain from selecting an emerging field as a career over a contemporary one," he said at a press conference here.
Therefore, universities have to be well prepared, have a good industry-academia interface and offer skill-based education that goes beyond the scope of just churning out graduates and post-graduates, Bawa said.
Today's youth want to take-up skill oriented education which can enable them to get employment or become entrepreneurs, the vice-chancellor said.
"Students from Uttarakhand have shown brilliant performance in academics and campus placements. Be it their academic results in board examinations, getting top positions at the university-level or campus recruitments by multi- national companies. Students from the region have proved their mettle in every field," he said.
They are well informed about their career options as they are choosing emerging fields like data analytics, information security, cloud computing, bio-technology, animation and film production, Bawa said.
