A near tense situation prevailed in Pondicherry University today following heated arguments and scuffle between two groups of staff and employees in the presence of the Vice Chancellor(VC) on his order, repatriating the Registrar.
Joint Action Committee of the University Staff Welfare Association registered strong protest against the October 24 order of the VC relieving the Registrar Rajiv Yaduvanshi, an IAS officer, from the post and repatriating him to the parent department, Union Home Ministry.
The Committee in a release alleged the Registrar was relieved without adhering to the procedure in the Office Memorandum.
However, a spokesman of an Association for Welfare of Scheduled Castes Scheduled Tribe employees in the university said the decision to repatriate Yadhuvanshi was taken at the October 24 Executive Council meeting and hence it could not be dubbed as an arbitrary decision of the VC.
A group opposing the order laid siege to the chamber of the VC today while the second group objected to it leading to heated arguments resulting in a minor scuffle among them.
Rajiv Yadhuvanshi, an IAS Officer of the AGMU cadre belonging to 1989 batch, was appointed on deputation basis as Registrar in December 2013 for three years by the Centre. He was earlier a Finance Secretary in Puducherry government.
Security staff of the University rushed in to restore calm by pacifying the two groups.
