The department has installed video cameras at different intersections to check traffic rule violations like red light jumping, over-speeding, over-loading, use of mobile phones and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Maqsood-ul-Zaman said here.
The SSP said the department has issued strict instructions for suspension of driving licences of those who violate traffic rules for a minimum period of three months.
"Action will be taken against the traffic rule violators which may include suspension of driving licence for a period of not less than three months under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988," the SSP said.
He said driving licence of 45 traffic violators have been confiscated and forwarded to the Regional Transport Office concerned for suspension as a deterrent.
