Sanjay Dutt's 'Parineeta' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' co-star Vidya Balan feels that the Bollywood actor deserves a lesser punishment in the 1993 blasts case.
Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has received several representations and petitions from various individuals and organisations, both seeking and opposing clemency for the 53-year-old actor.
Dutt has been ordered by the Supreme Court recently to return to jail to complete the five-year-sentence in the blasts case. But as he has already served 18 months, he would have to undergo the imprisonment for three-and-a-half-years.
"We all have faith in judiciary system. I don't think it is right for me to say anything about that. But as someone who really considers him as special and dear I just wish that his punishment becomes less. I know there are people who deserve this... But all of us are reacting from a personal point of view," Vidya said.
"Sanju is very special for me. I will always be there for him. God bless him," she said on the sidelines of an event held over the weekend here.
Meanwhile, Vidya is looking forward to the release of 'Ghanchakkar' a comedy where she plays a loud Punjabi housewife. The film directed by Rajkumar Gupta will see her opposite Emraan Hashmi.
"The promos have good response. It was a different experience for me, she is so loud. I used to feel I won't be able to deliver dialogues with so much loudness but Rajkumar made me do it," she said.
The 34-year-old star will be seen next in Pritish Nandy's home production film 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects' opposite Farhan Akhtar.
"The shooting is on and we are having fun. First time, I am working with a writer-actor-director-musician (Farhan) it is great, he has holistic perspective on things. It is fascinating for me," Vidya said.
