BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has expressed "unhappiness and resentment" over L-G Anil Baijal's "stamp of approval" to the AAP government's "one-sided" step in appointments to the three civic bodies and the State Naming Authority.
Gupta said he was perturbed by two actions of the Delhi government -- nominations of members to the State Naming Authority and of 30 Aldermen to the three municipal corporations -- getting the Lt Governor's approval.
"The steps taken are one-sided and sets the Opposition aside. Of the seven MLA members in the naming authority, no one is from the Opposition. This is not a single instance. The L-G is putting a stamp on it," he said.
Earlier this week, the State Naming Authority was constituted by the Delhi government after approval from the Lt Governor. The body has been formed to take decision on naming of roads, streets, residential areas among others.
The 34-member body, headed by the Deputy Chief Minister, chaired by the deputy chief minister, has officials from the Central government besides the seven MLAs as its members.
As per the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, the government nominates 10 people as Alderman for each of the three municipal corporations in the national capital after the Lt Governor's approval.
Gupta alleged that AAP was giving "back door entry" to party workers after losing the municipal elections.
"These are very serious issues. We will talk to him (L-G) and convey our resentment and unhappiness," the BJP leader told PTI, adding he will meet Baijal the next week.
