VS' jibe at CPI(M) decision in Chandrasekharan case

In a deft expression of his ire, CPI(M) veteran V S Achuthanandan today made certain loaded comments at the finding of the party's internal probe that local rivalry was the motive behind the murder of Marxist rebel T P Chandrasekharan.
"This report (of the internal probe) is incomplete...It cannot be said that no political rivalry is involved (behind the murder)... More things are to come out," the nonagenarian leader told reporters on the sidelines of a function at Kalayapuram in Kollam district.
He was reacting to queries on the expulsion of a local functionary from Onchiyam by CPI(M) on the ground that his personal animosity with Chandrasekharan was the motive behind the murder.

Achuthanandan's comment came close on the heels of his issuing a written statement in which he lavished praise on the leadership for expelling Local Committee (LC) member K C Ramachandran, one of the three party activists sentenced to life imprisonment in the case.
"By expelling Ramachandran, the party had in letter and spirit honoured the open commitment made by General Secretary Prakash Karat that anyone found to have involvement in the murder would not remain in the party," the statement said.
A CPI(M) rebel from party bastion Onchiyam in Kozhikode district, Chandrasekharan, had floated a parallel outift called Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) after falling out with the leadership. He was brutally hacked to death in May 2012.

A special court had about two months ago convicted 11 accused in the case, including three local CPI(M) functionaries.

Right from the start, Achuthanandan had differed from the party's state set-up controlled by his bete noire Pinarayi Vijayan over the Chandrasekharan case.
The senior leader had often embarrssed the party by making open statements virtually challenging the party's official position on the case.
Though Vijayan and his supporters have for quite some time been pressing for action against Achuthanandan, CPI(M)'s central leadership has deferred the issue till after Lok Sabha polls.
Also, the central leadership has prevailed upon the state unit to utilise Achuthanandan's services for the polls as he is a crowd-puller and an astute campaigner.

Meanwhile, Chandrasekharan's wife K K Rema and her RMP colleagues dubbed CPI(M)'s decision a a "political ploy" which people would see through.
The decision to expel Kunnammakara local committee member K C Ramachandran was taken by CPI(M) state committee yesterday in the presence of Karat.
