They would be coming to India like a "mini moving village" -- setting up tents and offering live entertainment -- but Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil, has a lot more in mind: to make a space for the group in the county "forever".
He is confident that there is a huge potential for them to grow in India.
The Canadian entertainment company, credited with reinventing circus, will be making its India debut with its show "Bazzar", premiering in November.
In a select media interaction in their sprawling headquarters in Montreal, which hosts nearly 1,400 artistes, Daniel shared his plans about their debut in India, a country where cinema still remains the primary source of entertainment.
"We are the leader of live entertainment but I don't see the movie business as our competitor. I see us complementing the movie business," Daniel said.
Citing the example of China, the CEO sees a similar pattern in India where the "movie business developed first and now the live entertainment is following."
Describing their approach, Daniel said they are going to India to learn and will spend a good amount of time listening to the market and "see what are the acts people are excited about."
"At Cirque, we don't talk about diversity, we live it everyday. There's 49 different nationalities represented and each nationality has influenced our growth. So now it's India's turn to influence our growth. And that's why I am so excited to go there."
