Shankar Sivan, alleged to be part of a three-member gang from Odisha, was arrested near Manamadurai last night, two days after he escaped from a police station after locking up two constables in the lockup, police said.
The gang had robbed about Rs 6.5 lakh from the employees of a construction company near here on January 12. While Sivan was chased by the locals and handed over to police, other two fled.
Police had lodged Sivan in the lockup at the local police station from where he escaped.
Meanwhile, District Superintendent of Police held an inquiry and ordered transfer of the station's Sub-Inspector and two constables to the Reserved Police for dereliction of duty leading to the escape of Sivan.
