West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she would "perform raj dharma" and act against offenders irrespective of political colour, citing cases of several TMC leaders who were lodged in jail.
"West Bengal is an important state. It is the duty of everybody to maintain law and order. I feel we should perform the raj dharama. I don't see political colour while performing it. Crime is crime, irrespective of political colour," she told a programme in a vernacular news channel.
Mamata referred to several TMC leaders such as an ex- councillor and a leader of South 24-Parganas district who were behind bars.
"We have arrested several activists of our party too. If someone takes law into his own hands, then law will take its own course. Because Government and politics are two different things. You should not mix it," Banerjee said.
On the attacks on police, Banerjee said that there are a section of political leadership who are instigating such violences against police.
"Why are they attacking police personnel? There are certain political leadership who are instigating such attacks against the police personnel. They are doing it to malign West Bengal. They are burning police jeeps, breaking computers. Why are they attacking. If they have any grievances they can take democratic means such as submitting deputation and giving dharnas," Banerjee said.
Banerjee said her government would not repeat the mistakes committed by the erstwhile Left regime.
Banerjee while hitting out at the 'Syndicate business' (which supply raw material for buildings), said no one had the right to force someone buy raw materials from that very syndicate. It is wrong.
"There are certain people who make money by using the name of certain political parties. Whichever political party is in power they try to take shelter under that party. But canards are being spread against our party. TMC is transparent than many other political parties", she said.
The chief minister said that she would not tolerate if someone committed any excess, while noting that the crime rate had gone down by 17 per cent.
"However, some TV channels keep on spreading canards against our party," she said.
