Witness to a murder 20 yrs ago taken into custody

A man was taken into custody here today soon after he claimed at a press conference that he was witness to a murder in Tamil Nadu 20 years ago by a gang with which he had links, police said.
M K Sibi told reporters that he was witness to the killing of a watch seller in Ukkadam in Coimbatore 20 years ago allegedly by two members of a drug smuggling gang based in Vaikom in the district.
Sibi also said he was a close associate of the gang and wanted to make a confessional statement before a court about the murder.

On information, police reached the press club premises and took him into custody when he was about to leave.
District Committee of the Kerala Union of Working Journalist protested the police action at the premises of the Press Club.
