Yashodha Hoshiarsingh Rana (28) took the extreme step yesterday, API Ajay Aphale of Navghar police station said.
The woman worked in a mobile service shop where she developed friendship with one Omar Ayub Balsania (36) and gave him her jewellery.
She was apparently upset as some of her ornaments were mortgaged by Balsania, police said.
The bodies of Yasodha and her son Vicky were later fished out of the creek and sent for post-mortem.
The accused was charged under section 306 of the IPC and arrested last night based on a complaint by the victim's husband.
