Woman's bail plea in luxury car mishap case adjourned

The bail plea of a woman, who allegedly mowed down a 45-year-old man while driving her luxury Audi car in the city, was today adjourned to July 13 by a court here.
Principal Sessions Judge Jayachandran adjourned the bail petition of Aiswarya Wilton after City Public Prosecutor M L Jegan submitted that reports on alleged consumption of alcohol by her was yet to be received by him.
Yesterday, the Madras High Court declined to entertain her bail plea, holding that the petitioner had approached it before exhausting the remedy available in the lower court.
On July 2 early morning, Wilton's speeding car had allegedly hit Munusamy, a carpenter, on Rajiv Gandhi Salai.

The victim was waiting to cross the road when the car hit him, killing him on the spot. The public gave a chase and managed to stop the car.
Wilton was arrested and remanded in judicial custody the same day for alleged offences of rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder under IPC sections read with Sec 185 (drunken driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Counsel for Aiswarya had claimed in the high court that even assuming that the petitioner had consumed alcohol, it would definitely have been less than the percentage prescribed.
