Woman, teenage girl travelling in auto rickshaws molested

A 22-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl were allegedly molested in separate incidents while they were travelling in auto rickshaws in suburban Andheri, the police said Wednesday.

In both the instances, they were touched inappropriately when their auto rickshaws slowed down, prompting the police to suspect that the acts might have been committed by a same person, an official said.

The first incident took place Monday night under Oshiwara police station limits when the 22-year-old woman was returning home from work, he said.

The teenage girl was touched Sunday night by an unidentified person when she was travelling with her mother under the Amboli police station limits, according to the official.

Separate cases were registered by the police under various sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

Efforts are on to identify and nab the accused, the official said.
