Adelegation of women Congress workers led by president Shobha Ojha called onGovernorBalramji Das Tandon and submittedamemorandumseeking to curb "atrocities" against women in the state.
The party workers staged a protest at Raipur Municipal Corporation Garden, where they also performed street plays condemning crimes against women.
Subsequently, they took out an Akrosh Rally, a foot march in a bid to gherao Chief Minister Raman Singh's house raising their demands, but they were stopped midway by police.
In the memorandum, the women Congress alleged that crime against women is at its peak in Chhattisgarh, where 34,000 cases of atrocities on women were registered in the past three years.
Citing a recent case of a suicide by a gangrape victim in Bhilai town of Durg district, they alleged that the girl was molested by two policemen and a government doctor and she was pressured even from jail, which compelled her to kill herself.
The women Congress sought a judicial probe into the incident besides a government job to a relative of the victim.
They also demanded setting up of 'one stop crises centres' in each district of the state for women.
