"Today, the world has shrunk. What happens in one country affects the other. If one is unhappy, it will affect the other," Solanki said.
He also said that 21st century was a century of development.
The Governor, who is also Administrator of Union Territory Chandigarh, said that terrorism today poses biggest challenge to the development.
He said that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had once rightly said that development cannot be achieved without peace.
Solanki said that India has always talked about non-violence. "We have always given the message of peace," he said.
He also made a mention of Yoga and said it can play a positive role in transforming an individual and making him an asset for the society.
The Governor said that Swami Vivekananda, through his speech in Chicago, gave a message to the world that all religions were one.
Among others who spoke on the occasion included CRRID Executive Vice Chairman, Rashpal Malhotra.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who was scheduled to speak at the CRRID conference, where President Pranab Mukherjee was the chief guest today, could not make to the event.
"Chief Minister Badal has not been able to make it (for the function). I am told that he is unwell," Malhotra said before delivering his address on the occasion.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, who was also scheduled to attend the conference, also did not make it to the event today, though no reason was given for his absence.
