Youth attempts to disrupt 'Jashn-e-Bahar' mushaira

A youth claiming to be member of a rightist outfit tonight attempted to disrupt a 'mushaira' here objecting to the presence of Pakistani Urdu poets at the poetry recital function.
As soon as the annual 'Jashn-e-Bahar' started at the Delhi Public School on Mathura Road near south Delhi's Nizamuddin, the youth stood up and shouted slogans against Pakistan.
The youth claimed to be a member of Hindu Yuva Vahini and said he was against the participation of Pak Urdu poets -- Fahmida Riaz, Kishwar Naheed and Harris Khalique -- at the function alleging that Hindus were being killed in that country.

The youth, whose identity was not immediately known, was whisked away by police from the spot.
Renowned poets from countries like the US and Japan besides India and Pakistan are participating in the 15th edition of the 'Jashn-e-Bahar' poetic symposium.
'Jashn-e-Bahar', which claims to be the country's biggest unofficial, non-political mushaira, aims at nurturing Urdu poetry and the syncretic traditions the language stands for.
"Poetry unites cultures like nothing else does and the tradition of Mushaira is as old as poetry itself. It empowers us to serve our beautiful language," said Kamna Prasad, founder of Jashn-e-Bahar Trust and organiser of the mushaira.
