The incident occurred in Tigaon area after some unidentified persons opened fire on Dhara, who was contesting for booth-level polls, police said.

The incident took place soon after the victim and his supporters reportedly entered into an argument with members of their rival faction.

The victim is being treated at a private hospital where his condition is stated to be serious, they said, adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers.
