About 600-700 delegates comprising top corporate heads, academicians, civil servants and researchers are expected to attend the All India Management Associations (AIMA) prestigious annual event, the 24th National Management Convention (NMA). The theme of the two-day convention, which will begin on August 8, is the challenges and strategies for excelling in the 21st century.

The convention will help companies cope with challenges and strategies as we move on to the next millenium, N R Narayana Murthy, chairman and managing director of Infosys Technologies Ltd said. Murthy will preside over the convention.

The 40-year old AIMA with 30,000 members is the foremost management body in the country. The AIMA chairman happens to be the head of the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL), K Jairaj.

The NMAs major highlight will be an event preceding the convention the CEOs forum to be presided over by Prof C K Prahalad.

The forum to be attended by over 75 senior management professionals will discuss issues such as core competence, strategic impact, organisational repositioning and provide a perspective on how companies could forge ahead in a competitive world.

Prof Prahalad, founder of the term core competence, at present teaches at the University of Michigan Business School, USA.

The convention will have an impressive line-up of speakers which include, John Sheldon, KPMG Peat Marwick India Pvt Ltd-Australian partner; Titan Industries Ltds vice chairman and MD, Xerxes Desai; ICICIs CEO and MD K V Kamath, Wipro Corporations chairman, Azim Hasham Premji; Deepak Parekh, chairman, HDFC and K B Dadiseth, chairman of Hindustan Lever Ltd.

The NMA is expected to be on the Internet, while a CD-ROM on the events proceedings is also in the offing.
