Compaq, Iti In Alliance For Expertise Centre

Compaq India and Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up an expertise centre in Bangalore.

The centre will be located within the ITI premises and will enable development of skills and knowledge base in the telecom domain.

Addressing a joint press conference Air Commodore (Retd) S S Motilal, chairman and managing director, ITI Ltd, said the arrangement would enable the company to reach out to the markets in the Asia-Pacific region also.

He said the trend was to focus on the convergence of the telecommunications, entertainment and information technology sectors.

In addressing the fast growing IT industry, ITI hopes to leverage its vast telecom expertise and infrastructural strength to enable maximum returns on IT investments by our customers and reduce the total cost of ownership, he said.

Both ITI and Compaq have bid together for contracts worth over Rs 100 crore and have had an association for the last year and a half, Motilal said.

Balu Doraisamy, managing director, Compaq India, said Compaq would bring into the alliance its expertise in the areas of e-commerce/ISP, fraud management, billing/data networking and also provide inputs for training and consulting support.

According to Doraisamy, Compaq would treat ITI as a preferred partner for all projects in its expertise areas, while ITI would leverage its domain expertise in telecom, and its experience in the Indian telecom industry to design and build ITI integrated solutions on Compaq's globally proven telecom solutions, frameworks and products.

The alliance will focus on the Indian national telecom network, defence and also on customers in the Asia-Pacific region.

ITI will also be deploying resources which would also include consultants, analysts, and technical specialists for the solution areas in which ITI will collaborate with Compaq India.
