National Power To Quit India

After the US-based power giant Cogentrix, British transnational PowerGen and French major Electricite de France, it is now the turn of UK-based National Power to pull out of its projects in India.

National Power is understood to have decided to pull out of the 1040 mw, Rs 5,400-crore, Visakha- patnam project in Andhra Pradesh, which it was jointly setting up with the Hinduja group. It is also considering a similar move in the 1,000 mw North Madras power project with the Hindujas.

The decision of National Power is in line with its global restructuring strategy, wherein the power company will slowly reduce its presence in India and Asia, senior officials at one of National Power
