The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has been ranked fifth in the world in terms of trading volumes across all the bourses. The rankings are being done by the international body of exchanges called the Internationale Federationale Bourses Velore (FIBV).
The statistics reveal that the S&P CNX Nifty (NSE-50) has registered the largest trading volumes of more than 90 million trades in calendar 1999.
The US markets continue to be the most heavily traded markets with the tech-heavy Nasdaq ranking first in terms of trading volumes and the New York Stock Exchange settling for the second slot. Korea has stood third in terms of trading volumes while Taiwan is at the fourth positions.
With Indian markets becoming a growing playground for large institutional investors, most foreign institutional investors (FIIs) view India as a liquid market. Currently more than 450 FIIs have registered with the Security and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for trading at the Indian markets.
