It was a do-or-die game for Senegal as a draw would have seen them bank all their hopes on Qatar to beat the Netherlands which was a highly unlikely scenario. That is why they decided to do everything themselves and got through the Ecuadorian challenge 2-1. 

 

It was not an easy victory by any stretch of the imagination as Ecuador equalised in the 67th minute after Senegal got in front in the first half courtesy of a penalty which was converted by Ismaila Sarr. The equaliser for Ecuador was scored by Moises Caicedo. But then the experience of Kalidou Koulibaly came to Senegal's rescue as he got them in lead in the 70th minute and then the African nation managed to maintain it throughout.
