Prasad says no politics in Digital India project

Seeks support from states for execution

Union Communications and Information Technology (IT) Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday termed the recently unveiled Digital India project as “politics-neutral”, as he sought support of all states to make it work.

“Digital India is an obligation that we owe to the next generation of India. It is politics-neutral. All state governments have to walk together in order to achieve this goal,” Prasad said, speaking at the conference on Digital India here.

Of the 10 IT ministers who attended the conference, three were from the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states.  He termed it a “game changer” project which would “transform” India.

He said the government has finalised two electronic manufacturing clusters and has given an in-principal approval to eight, to boost domestic manufacturing, according to a PTI report.
